Where to go in The Gambia

The Gambia is small on the map and slow on the ground. The coast gives you beaches and fishing villages; the river gives you everything else: UNESCO heritage, stone circles older than Rome's empire, chimpanzees, hippos and some of the best birdwatching in Africa. Leave the resort strip at least once. That is where the country really begins.
